One of our researches is focusing on development of new and convenient methods to activate low-valent transition metal complexes. Use such active complexes as mediators and catalysts not only makes the known organic transformations more efficient but also leads to develop novel and efficient reactions. A major achievement in this field is activation of alkyne-dicobalt hexacarbonyl complexes by coordination of Lewis bases. The Pauson-Khand reaction and the [2+2+2]-cyclotrimerization of alkynes proceeded smoothly and efficiently in the both stoichiometric and catalytic manner and two novel decomplexation methods were also carried out in the presence of amines, alcohols, ethers, and sulfides.
